As you arrive on the plateau of Orchamps-Vennes, you become acutely aware of the tang of the wind, the shiver of fresh air and the sweeping landscape of the Haut-Doubs, somewhat intimidating in its defiant pride. Admire the gentle contours of the hills and the dark green of the firs as nature in all its uncomplicated generosity and splendour opens up to your gaze. |
Such - and much more - is the Haut-Doubs, an infinitely beguiling region with many a mystery to fathom for those who seek. It is a sturdy Franche-Comté farmhouse dating from 1736, lovingly restored by Noël Myotte ("Le Montagnon") and his wife who, after winning the first prize for the best restored farm in Franche-Comté in 1981, decided to turn it into a popular museum. |
Exercising great taste and concern for authenticity, Madame and Monsieur Noël Myotte have converted the site without sacrificing any of its original charm. They have decorated the rooms with old furniture and articles, affording us a privileged glimpse into rural life in 19th century Franche-Comté. |
